In India, a significant majority of rural households depend on agriculture for their livelihoods, with smallholder farmers making up 80 per cent of farm households. Despite their pivotal role in agricultural production, they face a lack of resources, technology, fair markets, and essential services, which hampers their economic progress. To address this, an inclusive business approach is essential. By integrating farmers into sustainable market-driven supply chains and viewing farming as an enterprise, smallholders can shift from subsistence to profit-making. This transformation unlocks the economic benefits of inclusive business, improving productivity and reducing poverty. Continuous monitoring and performance metrics ensure the model delivers both business and social impact, creating long-term value for farmers and investors alike.
