New Additional Permit for Manaslu Trek: What You Need to Know
Recently, the Tsum Valley Municipality and the Manaslu Local Area has introduced a new trekking permit, adding another layer to the already detailed permit system for the Manaslu Circuit Trek. This update affects trekkers seeking to explore both the Manaslu and Tsum Valley regions, adding to the cost and administrative steps involved in obtaining permits. Here’s an updated overview of the permits you’ll need, including costs, how to get them, and answers to some frequently asked questions regarding Manaslu Trek. Now, one requires obtaining Manaslu Restricted Area Permit, Annapurna Conservation Area Entry Permit, Manaslu Conservation Area Entry Permit, Tsum Valley Entry Permit) if you are entering into Tsum Vallye and newly introduces and imposed Manaslu and Tsum Valley Local Area Entry Permit which costs Rs. 1000 per individual trekker for Manaslu Circuit and Tsum Valley Trek. If you are doing only Manaslu Circuit Trek, you don’t need to obtain Tsum Valley Entry Permit.
Overview of Required Permits for the Manaslu Circuit Trek
1. Manaslu Restricted Area Permit (Manaslu RAP): The Manaslu region is a restricted area, requiring a special permit to enter. The cost of this permit varies based on the season and the number of days you plan to stay in the restricted areas.
o September to November: USD 100 per person for the first 7 days, and USD 15 per day for each additional day.
o December to August: USD 75 per person for the first 7 days, and USD 10 per day for each additional day.
This permit is required from Jagat to Sama Gaun (days 2-8 of the trek). It’s mandatory to have at least two trekkers in a group accompanied by a registered guide, as individual trekkers are not allowed in restricted areas.
2. Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP): Since part of the Manaslu Circuit falls within the Annapurna Conservation Area, an ACAP permit is required.
o Cost: NPR 3,000 (around USD 23) per person for foreigners.
o SAARC nationals: NPR 200 (around USD 1.50) per person.
o For Nepalese: Free.
