Akasa Air is India\'s newest scheduled airline — its first commercial flight took off on 7 August 2022, connecting Mumbai to Ahmedabad, after the airline acquired its first Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. Backed early on by former Jet Airways CEO Vinay Dube, co-founder Aditya Ghosh, and the late investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, the airline went from zero aircraft to a fleet in the twenties within about four years, with an order book running into the hundreds of additional aircraft — one of the most aggressive expansion paces of any Indian carrier in that window.
