Jon Martin founded our company in 1961 as a place where fine home furnishings will be celebrated and elevated for generations to come. Jon wanted to build a lasting Workshop that supported seasoned master craftsman working alongside apprentices and journeymen. He saw this as the best way to perpetuate fine craftsmanship in Hawaii. The company has been at the forefront of reviving an appreciation for Koa, an exceptionally beautiful species of the acacia genus grown only in Hawaii. Irving Jenkins, in is authoritative book, “Hawaiian Furniture and Hawaii’s Cabinetmakers,” identifies Martin & MacArthur as “…the single biggest and lasting influence on the Hawaii woodcraft industry in the 20th century.”
