Welingkar Institute of Management Development & Research was established in 1977 and is run by the Shikshan Prasarak Mandali, a charitable trust based in Pune. It is affiliated with the University of Mumbai and has built a reputation as one of India’s better-known private B-schools, known for design-thinking-driven pedagogy, applied learning projects, and a fairly wide spread of specialisations compared to many peer institutes. Welingkar also operates a Bengaluru campus, but — importantly for applicants — admission to the Mumbai and Bengaluru campuses are handled as separate processes with separate seat allotments. If you have a campus preference, you need to indicate it clearly at the time of application, because transferring between the two campuses after selection is generally not possible.
